PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation)

 

Our water-activated paper tape is designed for sealing paper-based packaging and is engineered so that it does not interfere with the standard paper recycling processes of the main material (corrugated board/cardboard).

Under the current EU requirements (PPWR), compliance and recyclability are assessed at the level of the entire packaging unit i.e., the box including the closure, labels, and void fill.
The adhesive tape represents only a very small share of the overall shipping package in terms of both mass and surface area.

Therefore, the use of our standard Optimal qualities do not conflict with PPWR requirements.
Water-activated tape whether reinforced or non-reinforced often performs significantly better in recyclability assessments than alternative sealing solutions.

If you would like to further optimise the recyclability of the overall packaging via tape selection and ensure compliance with the PPWR minimum requirement (at least performance grade C, ≥ 70%), as well as the planned tightening in subsequent years to at least performance grade B (≥ 80%), we can offer the following product groups:

  • Non-reinforced water-activated paper tapes:
    Paper-based solutions made from renewable raw materials; recyclability 100%.
  • Water-activated paper tapes with applied threads (Lyocell):
    Paper-based solutions made from renewable raw materials; recyclability 100%.
  • Fibre-reinforced adhesive tapes:
    For this segment, we offer the newly developed Optimal Superflex, which achieves a recyclability score of 92% according to an external test report.

 

EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation)

 

The EUDR will apply from 30 December 2026 or 30 June 2027 (depending on company size/role). Our paper is of 100% EU origin. Once the EU has finalised the practical implementation (including the information system/guidance and the specific evidence formats required), we will be able to provide you with the necessary origin documentation and product specification data.
